Our smile is typically the first thing people notice about us. When we’re unhappy with that smile, it can seriously damage our self-confidence. The bright smile and straight teeth someone expects to see upon meeting you ends up being an awkward smirk or entirely covered by a hand.

What is Orthodontics?
Orthodontic treatment is the process of using advanced dental procedures to straighten your teeth. Gone are the days of feeling the need to hide your smile when laughing or taking a photo. Orthodontists undergo extensive training to help give you the smile of your dreams.
Types of Orthodontic Treatments
Two of the most common custom orthodontic treatments are traditional braces and clear aligners called Invisalign®. Both have unique advantages. If you are unsure which would be best for you, we can help you make an informed decision.
Braces
Braces have been around for quite a long time, but the “traditional” braces of today are a lot better and more comfortable than what you might expect. Your braces will consist of small metal brackets on each tooth and a wire that threads through them. These will stay on your teeth through the duration of your treatment and can only be removed by a professional dentist.
Invisalign
Are you looking for something a little less visible? Often the leading choice for many adults, Invisalign treatment makes the process a little more comfortable and a lot less noticeable. We use custom-made, clear aligners that will gradually shift your teeth for a straighter smile.
Invisalign aligners are removable, which is especially helpful when you’re eating or brushing. You will, however, need to make sure you wear them through most of the day – about 22 hours. Any less than that could drastically increase your treatment timeline.
The Braces Process
If you choose braces as your preferred orthodontic treatment, we will create an impression of your teeth as a reference, then use a special bonding material to attach each bracket to the front side of your teeth. We will then add the wires and trim them to prevent any uncomfortable poking. You’ll then come back in occasionally to have them adjusted.
The Invisalign Process
Like braces, we will take an impression of your smile. This impression will be used to create your custom-made aligners. Once we craft your aligners, we will place them over your teeth to ensure they fit properly. After that, you’re all set on the path to a straighter smile.
You will have to occasionally come back to the office to create more aligners as your teeth shift into the correct positions. During those visits, we’ll switch them out, and you’ll be on your way.
The Benefits of Braces
While braces might be seen as obsolete to some, they’re still going to be your most reliable option, especially for extremely crooked teeth. Some of the benefits of this treatment include:
- More effective for advanced cases of misaligned teeth
- You don’t have to worry about losing them or forgetting to wear them
- You can get the smile you’ve always wanted
